Great is Thy Faithfulness
The month of September tends to bring about a lot of change. When I was growing up it meant the start of school, new notebooks and pencils, the turning of the leaves, and a change in the weather. September has always meant a time of new beginnings for me, but also a time of letting go of a different season (as a kid this meant letting go of my summer vacation). For as far back as I can remember, this time of the year has symbolized a time for a fresh start, and a simultaneous release of something else. I am a staff member here at YWAM Yosemite, and as our team is preparing to graduate our Spring Discipleship Training School, and as we are getting ready to immediately begin a new DTS, I can’t help but feel the same nostalgic “September” feeling that I’ve felt my entire life around this time of the year. I left to do my DTS four years ago on September 19th. I remember the anticipation and preparation for a new adventure. I remember the fear of the unknown. I remember overthinking all of the new opportunities and possibilities that were before me, whether those thoughts made me ecstatic or out-of-my-mind nervous! I remember the feeling of accepting a new residence that wasn’t Montana, and the healthy release of my life back home for a short time. That was one of the most exciting times of my life. If you are reading this and you are stepping into something new in the near future, I am SO excited for you! As I think about all of the students that we are about to graduate, I am so thrilled when I hear the things that they are going on to do next. I can see them stepping into this next season with a new confidence and boldness that wasn’t there when they arrived on the first day of their DTS! When I think about the large group of students that we are about to receive, I am so eager to witness the things that God is about to do in their lives that will absolutely change them forever. No matter what stage of life you are in right now, this is my prayer for you: that you would recount the faithfulness of God in your life. I pray that you would lean into Him during this season, that you trust Him to guide you as the only constant sure-footing in your life, and that you walk forward in His everlasting truth and daily mercies. I encourage you to listen to the hymn “Great is Thy Faithfulness”, and to pay close attention to the strength and hope written in the lyrics (I have posted them below). This has been the song on my heart as I pray for the change that is about to take place in my life, and in the lives of many people I know.
GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS Written by Thomas O. Chisholm
“Great is Thy faithfulness,” O God my Father, There is no shadow of turning with Thee; Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.
Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see; All I have needed Thy hand hath provided— Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me.
Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest, Sun, moon and stars in their courses above, Join with all nature in manifold witness To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth, Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide; Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
