Preparing To Please

How much time do we spend making ourselves happy? Since our last update, I think our staff team has grown significantly closer because of the revelation that life is not about making ourselves happy but, as a team, looking out for the needs of each other. In Romans 15:2-3a, Paul wrote, “Each of us should please our neighbors for their good to build them up. For even Christ did not please Himself”. We have taken this attitude into everything this week and we have seen what a difference it makes to apply this concept to our lives together. Over the next few weeks and months here at YWAM Yosemite, we have a great deal of guests staying in our hospitality rooms, new staff arriving, a mobilization trip, and groups coming for Mission Adventures, which is like a week-long DTS for youth groups. We are so thankful for all these things!

Next week we will be sending a mobilization team to Redding, California and immediately following that, we have YWAM Redding’s staff team coming here for a retreat. There has been a lot of preparation for both events. Our maintenance department has been putting together bunk beds, cleaning up the dorms, and making wooden posts for our mobile trip banner. It has been a lot of work! What makes it worth it is knowing we can please others and the Lord by our hard work.

Jesus’ model of pleasing others is so perfect. He didn’t find His identity in pleasing others, He knew who He was which made Him ABLE to please others. In John 13:3-4, the Word says, “Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that He had come from God and was returning to God; so He got up from the meal, took off His outer clothing and wrapped a towel around His waist.” As a result of Jesus knowing His identity, He began to wash the disciples’ feet. That example makes doing the preparation work for our guests a privilege.

We are seeing programs, like Mission Adventures and mobile trips, come together in a way only God could provide. A few of our staff were able to share at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes club in a local high-school. It was an incredible time of inspiring the students to go after God and leave complacency behind. We are hoping to see those students step into a life of complete faith in God, whether that is with us in missions, in their local church, or wherever God calls them. This is our mission with all of our mobile trips; to bring awareness of the need for YOU to answer His call on your life.

Next week is going to be busy but filled with testimonies about God’s goodness. Please be praying for our team as they go to Redding and share the heart of YWAM Yosemite. Also be praying for this summer's Mission Adventures Program. We are looking forward to this summer and are really excited to partner with what the Holy Spirit is doing in the lives around us. As we enter into next week, we invite you to take the challenge with us of living for others' benefit and the Lord's work above our own ideas of what makes us happy- it is then, we are finding, that we are truly brought into His joy.
