Why God Wants to Use Your Passions

Why Your Passions Are God-Given

I often hear Christians talk about the things they love as separate from the things God loves.

They are passionate about art, singing, exercise... or even teaching, governing, and nursing. But, for some reason, they don't make the leap to ask God how He intended them to use these passions. Why? Why do we believe that the things we love are of little importance to the One who brought all things into existence?

As a Church, we have fallen victim to an idea. It's severing the callings and passions of so many young and gifted Christians and hindering our pursuit of a world that so desperately needs the hope and intervention of a Savior.

It's the lie that "spiritual and secular" operate completely separate from one another.

The dichotomy between "spiritual" and "secular" is a lie that prevents the Kingdom of God from transforming all areas of our lives and even our society.

We as Christians are called to be “the light of the world” to shine in every sphere of society (John 5: 17).  We are not supposed to hide from a world of sin, we are supposed to invade it with truth, holiness, and righteousness.

The Kingdom of Heaven is on the offense, not Hell. It is God’s intention that we pursue the desires and passions that He has so wonderfully woven into our beings, so that we may impact the world in every sphere of society (family, economy, government, religion, education, media, arts & entertainment), in every culture, in every nation, and in every language.

The spiritual and the secular were never meant to be separated. It all is all part of one world, beautifully made by God, and aching for the Only Savior. Yes, God wants you to pursue the things that you love! Not only that, but He wants you to do so in His name, so that He may be glorified among the nations.

Whether you come alive in snowboarding, traveling, fashion, business, let it be a form of worship and an opportunity for you to share the Good News with the people you meet along the way. It is your calling!

Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works, and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

- Matthew 5: 16

At YWAM Yosemite, we train and equip people to be effective in their calling that the spheres may be engaged by the Great Commission and that the nations will be reached with the Gospel. If you're looking for the next step in moving with intentionality toward what God has called you to, we want to be a part of your journey.
